| Description |
This unique figure has been created entirely out
of one piece of stone, with a beautiful grain
which makes any kind of formal decoration
unnecessary. The face with the expressive eyes
and prominent nose and mouth, are stylistically
typical of Mayan art. However, the type of stone
used and the positioning of the sculpture is
extremely unique. The continuous line of the
legs, which also seem to be arms draw attention
to both the face and the lines which are part of
the natural stone. Because this piece is so
magnificent, we are drawn towards the artists
ingenuity and creativity. This type of curiosity
and fascination is timeless, and will undoubtedly
remain so, as long as such art work is to be
found and seen .
