| Description |
With his proud, aquiline nose and haughty scowl,
this kneeling man impresses us as a person of
importance, someone used to the privileges of
power. His helmet headdress with two horn-like
protrusions suggests his rank as a warrior or
perhaps a tribal chieftain. Since he was clearly an
aristocrat in his own world, we are inclined to
treat him with every mark of respect in ours.
This is a superb example of early Peruvian
ceramic art.
